Within the scope of the infrastructure project carried out within the Department of Aerospace Engineering of BEUN Faculty of Engineering, a Laser Coating Device set consisting of a total of five basic parts, which has become one of the widely preferred technologies in the field of surface coating in recent years, was purchased.
Laser coating technology, which has been widely used in recent years among the current technologies in the field of material surface coating, has been brought to our university. With this technology, it is aimed to improve the surface properties of materials. It is especially used to increase resistance to abrasion on the surface of the material and to prevent corrosion on the surface. In addition to these applications, it is also used for surface repair and changing/improving the thermal properties of materials.
In this technology, the surface of the material is melted using nitrogen or argon gas and the surface coating process is carried out with the powders sprayed on the melted area. The laser coating device set consists of five parts in total. These are the powder feeding unit, the chiller, the voltage regulator, the laser PLC control unit, and the router for the movement of the laser head. The device allows coating on various materials using different power values.
Although the primary goal of the university is always scientific research, it is known that laser cladding technology has a wide range of applications in industry (manufacturing, mining, aerospace, etc.). In addition to the contribution of the device to academic studies, it is thought that it will also contribute to educational activities and project studies carried out by student groups within the Faculty of Engineering.
